John Ericson (1803-89), born in Sweden, was the U.S. naval engineer and inventor credited with building the ironclad ship, "The Monitor," of famed Civil War battle against the Confederate "Merrimac" on March 9, 1862 in battle.
Chindblom was an Augustana Alumnus 1890, United States Representative in Congress and an Illinois Leader of Swedish Americans.
